WHEN TO COME

  Alaska fishing is dependent upon the availability of the various species of salmon. Not only are the salmon themselves target species, but their presence in the rivers affects the diet and availability of trout, char and grayling. The month of June is before the salmon runs. This is rainbow and grayling fishing.


  King salmon show up early in July and the best fishing for them occurs during the first three weeks of that month. Chum and sockeye salmon closely follow the king runs and the best fishing for those two species occur in the middle twenty days of July. Once the salmon start to actively spawn in late July, the diet of the trout and grayling shifts to eggs. The char fishing picks up at this time, too. The fishing for these three species is excellent from late July through the rest of the summer. Silver salmon begin to arrive in mid-August and continue into early September.

 

CUSTOM TRIPS

  Custom trips are offered for those whose fishing plans don't fit readily into the confines of the trips outlined on this site.  Custom trips can be arranged to most locations in Alaska. I am experienced from the steelhead waters of southeast Alaska to the grayling rivers of the interior.

  Other options include backpacking for grayling and canoe trips for rainbows & Dolly Varden.

 
  Custom trips require a minimum of two people. The cost is comparable to the prices for regularly scheduled trips. Let me know your needs. I will be glad to discuss the possibility of a custom trip with you. Recommendations and quotes are given without charge or obligation.
