Alaska fly fishing

Fly fishing for salmon; sockeye and silver salmon, rainbow trout, dolly varden, arctic char and grayling in Alaska's legendary Bristol Bay watershed region is sure to be an enjoyable Alaskan fishing adventure. This is Alaska's finest remote, wilderness area and an exceptional natural resource. Our knowledge of these fishing waters and the terrain along with successful fishing techniques accumulated over the years, assures you an enjoyable fishing experience.

Try your hand flyfishing for trophy rainbow trout, char, Grayling and several varieties of salmon in remote Alaskan waters, far away from the crowds of anglers. Fly-fishing in the heart of Alaska's finest, richest area provides exceptional fishing adventures. In southwest Alaska, you'll be away from the crowds but at the best fishing. Also spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities compliment your fly-out fly fishing adventure.

Imagine a fiesty, wild Alaskan salmon on your rod, exploring and fishing uncrowded streams, fly-fishing for salmon, trout, char and grayling in southwest Alaska. Brightwater Alaska has been providing flyfishing float trips on Alaska's Bristol Bay waters since 1975. Below, read more about the areas we fish.

MULCHATNA DRAINAGE: There are several clearwater tributaries to the Mulchatna River west of the Iliamna Lake country. These rivers are small and lack the riverboat and daily floatplane traffic that have infected many of the larger Bristol Bay rivers. As a result these rivers have retained their wonderful wilderness values in addition to their excellent fishing. I use a variety of these waters based on the timing and strength of their salmon runs and the availability of trout, char & grayling.

GOODNEWS RIVER: The Goodnews is a clear water river that flows out of the tundra country at the southwest end of the Kuskokwim Mountains into the Bering Sea. This is an excellent fishery for salmon, rainbows and char. The upper portion of the river is entirely within the wilderness portion of the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge. This trip is timed to coincide with the silver salmon run and fishing for rainbows & Dolly Varden behind spawning sockeye & chum salmon.

WHAT WE PROVIDE: We offer only flyfishing float trips. Access to the rivers is by float plane from various southwestern Alaska villages. Travel on the river is by raft. The guide ratio on most trips is 1 guide and 2 clients per raft. We limit trips to 4 clients on public trips and to 6 clients on custom private party trips. Most fishing is done by wading, while some additional fishing is done from the rafts while floating. We camp each evening at the riverside and meals are prepared fresh daily.

Included in the price of each trip is floatplane transportation between the village where the trip originates and the river, raft and PFDs, tents, all meals, pre-trip information including gear and clothing lists, radio and aid kit in the event of emergencies and all guiding services.

You are expected to provide your own fishing tackle, personal gear, clothing, sleeping bag and pad. A list that is trip specific will be sent to you once we have received your deposit.
The weather tends to be the best and the days the longest in early and mid summer. Sometime in early August the weather starts to shift to a wetter pattern with the chances of rain increasing into September.
